I'm Dan Moyer, a visual artist, musician, and writer.
I have an affinity for creating art that works well in games, and also have well-developed people skills.
I've always thought of myself as an art director, and this is the role I fall into most naturally.
I have a blog called The Dan Machine, and I also participate in a group blog with a few artist friends from the games industry.
It's called Something Awesome.
Please be warned that it is somewhat informal.
I studied media arts at the Perpich High School for Arts Education in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
While I'd always been interested in modding videogames, it was at Perpich that I initially developed a taste for the interactive medium.
After graduating, I spent some time learning being in the real world, and work.
During this period, I found myself working in a factory, a chemical reasearch and development facility, and then a print shop.
There have been many other jobs, none of which bear mentioning, aside from noting that they also helped me to learn that it's important for me to like my job.
After a little over two years on my own, I went to college at DigiPen Institute of Technology.
At DigiPen, I had the priviledge of studying production animation under some really amazing instructors, many of whom were from Disney's recently shut-down animation studios.
I was fortunate enough to be hired by a small, budding studio called Fishbeat during my senior year, and worked there for the entirety thereof, and then became their fulltime art director after graduation.
While there, I had the graduating artist's dream job;
I was an art director, a character artist, and concept painter.
Our project was titled Aleph (click here to see some footage of Aleph), and while it is announced, it has been tabled for various reasons.
If you're curious about this game, you can download some footage of one of the levels here.
Aleph was my first foray into the professional game development realm, and got me started on my career path.
Since my work with Fishbeat, I have done freelance web development, graphic design, logo design, and some 3d work, but I would like to get back into the industry some time soon.
